Adjust the merchant value of keys (an easier solution to key storage problems)
I posted this in another forum, but I decided to post it here as well to get some more feedback. Apologies if this idea has been suggested before.. a quick search led only to threads about keyrings.
---
Regarding the requests for keyrings/key storage, perhaps it would be easier (and much simpler to code) if they simply made the merchant value of keys equal to the price you paid to buy them.
For example, if you bought 5 Shiverpeak keys at 600g each from the merchant, did a mission, and only used 3 of them, you could sell the 2 leftover keys back to the merchant for 600g each.
This way, instead of the current situation of buying too many keys and having to leave them in storage to use later, everyone can just sell them back to the merchant without any net loss of gold. Voila, freed-up storage space!
The only issue I see with this is the increased value of keys that drop from monsters. It'd be too much trouble to make those keys worth half the merchant price, and would defeat the whole purpose of my suggestion. They could either make them worth the same as merchant-bought keys, or eliminate them from monster drops altogether if they think that it would make them too valuable.
(This would also kill the key market that some people participate in, but if this idea was implemented, keys would be one less thing to clutter up the trade chat. And that's like a trade improvement. I hope.)
Any suggestions, improvements, critiques of this idea? Please post!

presume you want to stop people who hold faction outposts from being able to buy them cheaper? otherwise they can make money just running from one merchant to another...

hmm, i forgot that those who hold outposts can buy keys for cheaper. that is a problem, and for sure, they should not be allowed to make money like that.
i'm not sure how that could be prevented, without doing something like making keys worth different amounts depending on what was paid to acquire them. Like, if the key was bought from a discount merchant for 480g, then the key's value is 480g. If the key was bought from a regular merchant for 600g, then the key's value is 600g.
This is kind of complicated, and could lead to stacking problems (but why would they want to stack the two different-valued keys anyway)
To the poster below, there are no held outposts anywhere except Luxon/Kurzick territory.

If they do this, they can make an exception for Kurzick and Luxon keys. And whichever other keys that are sold in held outposts in Cantha.
